Something special is happening on Wednesday, July 16, and I apologize for not mentioning it last week. I hope you’re reading this in time to attend our VFW/AmVets Flagpole Dedication Ceremony in the Memorial Garden at 2 p.m. Immediately following in the Park Pavilion will be a service to retire and dispose of unserviceable American flags. Both ceremonies will be memorable and all are invited to observe and participate. If your flag is looking worn, this would be a good time to consider a replacement. If you can’t make it to the ceremony, there is a receptacle for unserviceable American flags in the foyer of Community Hall.
How’s everyone dealing with the heat? For those in Town, the Café is open if you need an air-conditioned space for a while. If you have no AC at home, consider participating in afternoon and evening activities at the Café: Pinochle is at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Backgammon at 2 p.m. on Wednesdays, Dinner at 5 p.m. on Fridays (Swiss Steak this week!), Burgers and Soup from 4-6 p.m. on Mondays.
I can live in Ryderwood without air conditioning for about three super-hot days as long as nighttime temperatures drop below 60º. My strategy is to fully open all windows and blinds then use every fan I have (furnace, ceiling, bathroom and kitchen exhausts, floor) to draw in cool nighttime air and exhaust hot daytime air. I’ll put on “woolies” and pull out an extra blanket before closing a window or turning off a fan!
This Saturday, July 19, will be the Social Club’s Annual Picnic Potluck in the Park at 5 p.m. It will be a good time with even better goodies, so plan to attend. The Annual Social Club Dues are also due in July – that’s $2 for year. Sunday will be the next Ice Cream Social and Card Bingo in Community Hall at 6 and 6:30 p.m. Last time’s crowd was a big one, meaning more winnings for the winners.
Have a great week!
