Pacific County is now home to a group calling themselves Willapa Bay Resistance. The self-described progressive group formed in early January of this year.
A number of groups using the term "resistance" in their names have sprung up around the country in opposition to the current presidential administration.
Denise Bell, a representative of the Willapa group, told the Herald, "We don't want to see things go back to how it was when we were young. We don't want the EPA gone. We don't want a lot of the stuff that [President Donald] Trump and [House Speaker Paul] Ryan said they are going to do."
As of late last week the group claimed 107 members on Facebook. According to Bell, roughly 30 people attend their monthly meetings.
"It's not so much a political party, although most of us are progressive. We just want to see the country move forward, not backward," explained Bell.
Bell said Willapa Bay Resistance's monthly meetings are open to the public. However, she declined to allow the date and time of their next meeting to be published, apparently out of concern that the meeting might be disrupted.
The group maintains a page on Facebook under the heading "Willapa Bay Resistance."
