The grant will be used exclusively for Raymond's Science program. Along with community and business resources, and with university partnerships, we will offer Raymond students a new Marine Science program. Students will spend time in the field, in Willapa Bay wetlands and with other researchers, for which they will receive high school credit. Other funding uses include an updated curriculum and a revamped Junior High Science program with new lab equipment.

These changes will allow a better transition from sixth grade to junior high, as well as from junior high to high school. Raymond Science Department instructors are energized for the change that will include use of iPad and MacBook technology partnered with online resources in lesson plans. The grant is the result of the hard work and writing skills of the GEAR-UP team, coordinated by Laurie Hatfield.

Science class offerings will be rearranged and coordinated between elementary and junior high and between junior high and high school. Due to a volume of student interest an after school science club will be available for students under the direction of our new science department head Sunny Bell.

"Science and math are become increasingly important. It is a thrill to have a team of science teachers working together to rebuild the department and develop new curriculum that is applicable to our place in the world. This grant allows us to implement what we could only hope for before," said Raymond Jr/Sr High School Principal Dave Vetter.
