The previous record was from 1983 and featured Rance Newman, Rayce's dad. Ally and Carte split the horizontal jumps, with Carte capturing the long jump and Ally taking the triple. Ally finished second to Carte in the long, and Rayce finished fifth in the triple. Andrew Hamilton added 2½ feet to his previous best toss in the shot, bettering 50 feet for the first time to win the event. Darol Ratsavongsy also had a 2-foot PR to take third. Second-place finishes were also recorded by Alex Vaca in the 800, the 4 by 400 relay team (Elliott Murdock, James Hamilton, Hunter Borden, and Alex Vaca), and Hunter Borden in the 110 hurdles. Hunter also qualified to state with a third-place finish in the 300 hurdles. Joining Hunter in both hurdle races will be Terry Broten, with a third-place finish in the 110s and a sixth-place finish in the 300s. Elliott Murdock held on for a sixth-place finish in the 400. Our final state participant on the boys’ side is Chase Flemetis, who punched his ticket with a sixth-place finish in the javelin after squeaking into the final district spot last week.
“The girls had some excellent performances as well. Hannah Dykes out-leaned a Northwest Christian runner to take second in the 100 and scored a pair of third-place finishes in the horizontal jumps. Hannah also anchored the 4 by 100 relay team to a third-place finish along with Abby Maneman, Aubrey Boyes, and Kira Dunsmoor. Abby advanced in the high jump with a fifth-place finish. Aiysha Garcia tossed a 2½-foot PR in the shot to finish third in a very tough shot competition that featured six of the top 10 throwers in the 2B division.
“Overall, we're excited to advance so many kids to the state meet. Our coaches (Rob Clements, Mike Henrie, Robin Vetter, and Rod Bannish) have been doing a great job all year long of preparing our kids for this time of year. Hopefully, we can keep it going for one more week and bring home our share of state medals. If we get some good performances, the boys could be in contention for a trophy, which is a position we haven't been in for quite some time.”
