With high expectations always looming over the Indians, a 35-7 season opening win is no disappointment. Ted Hippi was rocking as usual. The cheerleaders held their sign, always filled with satire. For the opener, the sign read "Hey Charles Wright, your mom called. You left your GAME at home." The Indians seem to feed off all the positivity from their home crowd, and their record sure shows it. Toledo has not lost a home game since 2013. With the win over Charles Wright, they are now 10-0 at home since 2014.
The strong Indian defense smothered the Terriers, allowing no rushing yards and 66 passing yards. Dakota Robins, Toledo's new senior leader, had five sacks to lead the defense. On offense, Robins had four catches for 67 yard and two touchdowns.
The Indians opened up the scoring line on a two yard touchdown run by Keyton Wallace. The score remained 7-0 through the remainder of the first quarter. The Indian offense caught fire in the second quarter and popped off 21 points. Dylan Hoiseck took in a 14 yard touchdown run, followed by a four yard run by Gannon Madill. Dalton Yoder and Dakota Robins connected for their first touchdown of the year on a 20 yard pass. Toledo went into the locker room with a 28-0 lead.
Robins and Yoder connected on a 30 yard pass in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring. An impressive start to the Indians season on both sides of the ball. Yoder finished 9 of 13 with 109 yards passing and two touchdowns tosses. Marcus Oulette led the running backs with 11 carries for 51 yards. Dakota Robins caught four passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns. Toledo will play host to former Trico 1A foe Ilwaco.
Preview:
Ilwaco vs. Toledo
Ilwaco's Week 1 Game: Ilwaco-33 Nestucca, OR- 22
Last Meeting: November 7, 2014. First Round of Playoffs. Toledo won 55-10.
In recent years, Ilwaco has not had a lot to show. This year, Ilwaco has one of its fuller teams ever. Toledo will be a tough matchup for them, but Ilwaco's running game looks strong. Most of the night against Nestucca, Ilwaco ran tosses and off tackle plays. Look for the Toledo defensive ends to have a hay day. In order for Ilwaco to have a shot, they might have to look to the air more and spread out the Toledo defense. Toledo's front and linebackers are too strong for their run game.
Prediction- Toledo-49 Ilwaco-6
Castle Rock and Ridgefield Battle, Spudders Get the W
The game was a defensive battle all night, and ended with what would be a baseball score. Only one touchdown was scored in this 7-2 Ridgefield win. The 2A Spudders went 8-2 last season.
The Rockets second year coach Eric Boswell said, "Our defense played really well. We had many opportunities to score but didn't." Castle Rock totaled 146 yards.
Quarterback Seth Werly went 6 for 19 for 47 yards in his varsity debut.
Preview: Castle Rock vs Montesano
Montesano's Week 1 Game: Montesano-54 Aberdeen-20
Last Meeting: November 6, 2015. First Round of Playoffs. Montesano won 50-6.
Montesano is always tough. Year in and year out they produce state playoff football teams. This year is the same. In their season opener, they had four players score two touchdowns. There are many weapons in this team. Castle Rock will need to play some solid defense in order to take down this tough opponent.
Prediction: Montesano-38 Castle Rock-10
South Bend Smacks Winlock
Winlock came into the came very optimistic, and battled South Bend. They went back and forth in the first quarter, and kept it close through halftime. Winlock could not stop the Indian ground attack. South Bend ran crazy for 547 yards. Coach Samples said he was pleased with how the Cardinals battled in the first half.
Seth Lindsey led the offense with 167 yards rushing.
Preview: Winlock vs. Colton, Oregon
Colton's Week 1 Matchup: Colton- 35 Corbett/Corbett Charter-0
No Past Matchups
Winlock will host Colton, Oregon in their week two matchup. Colton is a young team, but with some good experience. This should be a good matchup for Winlock to bounce back from.
Prediction: Winlock-28 Colton, OR- 27
