On Thursday, April 15, the quiet of the area was broken by sirens racing north on HWY 101. Just passed Smith Creek Road, multiple structures were on fire which burned hot and spread quickly.
Pacific County Fire District 3 and Raymond Fire Department were the first on the scene. Additional units from South Bend and Artic were toned for water supply and manpower. WSDOT was used to shut down a lane of traffic during the emergency. Other departments that assisted were Montesano FD, Pacific County Sheriff's Office, South Bend Police Department, Raymond PD, PACCOM, and Pacific County Emergency Management.
A total of 16 apparatus responded to the scene with over 20 firefighters. It took 9 hours to extinguish the fire. On Friday afternoon, the smell of the fire and smoke still lingered at the site.
