John W. Simons, 49, of Ilwaco pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine and was sentenced to a year in prison.
Simons was contacted by Long Beach Police Officers who recognized Simons and arrested him on an outstanding warrant. Officers located methamphetamine in a search of Simons incident to his arrest.
"While the legislature set the sentence range for this offense at zero to six months in county jail, because Mr. Simon's missed a court date he was eligible for a charge of bail jumping, which would have caused Mr. Simons to be held in County jail for nine to twelve months," said Pacific County Prosecutor Mark McClain. "Because prison is more comfortable than our local jail, Simons requested we send him to prison, which is something we are all too happy to oblige,"
Simons will be on Department of Corrections supervision for one year following his release from prison and be required to complete drug treatment as a result of this felony conviction.
