Lady Indians hammered hard by Ilwaco, win by 2 over Rainer
By PAT MYERS
Last Friday night at the Koplitz Field House the Lady Indians met the Rainer Mountaineers. The Indians won the bout with a final score of 29 to 27.
South Bend head coach Gary Wilson said, "This was a win for the program. We only had two girls on the floor down the stretch with any varsity experience and they held on. We controlled the game until the last 3 minutes. I think some fatigue set in during the fourth Quarter with no breaks through the entire game.
"Rielly Myers did a great job controlling the boards with 14 rebounds and 5 points," Coach Wilson said. "Emily Sanchez has to cover a lot of ground for us in all parts of our game and did a great job with 11 points and 5 rebounds. She hit a monster three at the 3 minute mark to give us a little more room to breath. Paola Razo had 11 points in the game also. Everyone had something to offer the team in this game and that is what the coaching staff was the most pleased with."
Scores at end of each quarter:
Q1: SB-7/R-5, Q2: SB-15/R-7, Q3: SB-22/R-10, Q4: SB-29/R-27
Ilwaco 66, Lady Indians 27
Last Tuesday evening (Dec. 16) the Lady Indians met the Ilwaco Lady Fishermen. About this game Coach Gary Wilson had this to say, "Ilwaco's transition game was just too much for us. I was pleased with our defense when we could keep them in the half court game. Rielly Myers had a good floor game with 13 points. Emily Sanchez was the leading rebounder with 6.
"lIwaco's Makenzie Kaech was the games leading scorer (19 pts). Sometimes gaining experience can be painful. I think we did take some positive out of this game that will show up in the future."
Scores at end of each quarter:
Q1: I-22/SB-8, Q2: I-41/SB-14, Q3: I-52/SB-19, Q4: I-66/SB-27
