The Friends of the Willapa Wildlife Refuge have announced the winner of their annual scholarship of $1,500. This year's recipient is Allison Hill, a 2015 graduate of South Bend High School. Hill will enter Oregon State University this fall to study veterinary medicine.
Having earned 90 credits in the Running Start program at Grays Harbor College, Hill will start college with many of her early required courses already completed. She maintained a 3.78 grade point with her college courses and a 3.8 in her high school classes. In addition, she has been active in community and school activities, earning a varsity letter in track and field, volleyball, and volunteering over 400 hours in various organizations. This busy young woman has also held part-time jobs since ninth grade.
Each February, the Friends invite graduating high school seniors with a minimum 3.5 grade average to apply for its annual scholarship. Students must be planning a major which could lead to a career in wildlife management, environmental education or other outdoor studies.
