Nobody knows how old the railing was, but it appears in photographs of the church dating back to the early 1970s. Needless to say, the wrought iron railing was rotted. The First Lutheran Church Council approved the project and was excited about supporting the shop class. Mr. McMurry and his students built picnic tables and a shed for the Growing Together Community Garden as well. The staff at the church said they were very pleased with the quality of craftsmanship; if the need arises again, they will get the work without a doubt.

Community support of South Bend Schools and CTE (Career and Technical Education) is appreciated and in return they like to help non-profit entities in our community when possible, such as the Community Garden and the Lutheran Church. We have also built projects for the City of South Bend (storage shed), Habitat for Humanity (storage shed and signs), Alder House (flower boxes), and others.

If you need a shed, picnic tables, doghouse, or other items that the shop may be able to build, please contact Mr. McMurry and the shop class.
