Montesano mashed host Raymond 63-21 at the New Year’s Classic at Seagull Gym Friday night. The Lady Bulldogs blew out the Lady Seagulls in the first quarter 23-5.
"They are a very good team with all the right pieces," Raymond HS Head Girls’ Basketball Coach Jon Schray told the Herald. "We came out pretty flat and just couldn't knock down our open shots."
Raymond shot an ice cold 14% on 7 of 50 from the field. Monte was hot at 50% (28 of 56).
Aubree Gardner scored 8 points for RHS and Mikayla Collins had 6 rebounds. Hailee Williams stole the ball 3 times.
The loss dropped Raymond to 4-3 on the season. Montesano is undefeated at 5-0.
Lady Gulls 54 North Beach 37
Raymond cruised past North Beach 54-37 at Seagull Gym December 20. Aiysha Garcia scored 20 points and hauled in 11 rebounds for the Lady Seagulls.
"Aiysha overpowered them inside," said RHS head coach Jon Schray.
Hailee Williams sank 14 points and Mikayla Collins grabbed a dozen boards. Aubree Gardner added 9 points.
The game was tied 12-12 after one quarter before the Lady Gulls assumed a 23-16 halftime lead. Raymond was in front 39-23 after three stops.
The Gulls held the Lady Hyaks to 22 percent shooting on 13 of 58. Raymond was 21 of 61 for 34%.
Montesano 56, Raymond 40
Host Montesano dumped Raymond 56-40 Dec. 16. The Lady Bulldogs shot out to a 19-8 lead after one quarter and coasted the rest of the way.
Garcia shot in 19, and Hailee Williams scored 12 points for RHS.
Montesano led 34-18 at intermission and increased the lead to 52-25 heading into the fourth quarter.
Raymond shot 29 percent on 16 of 54, while Monte was at 38% (22 of 57).
Lady Gulls 69, Ocosta 22
Williams pumped in 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds to lead Raymond’s 69-22 onslaught of visiting Ocosta Dec. 14.
Gardner netted 10 points and made 4 steals, and Garcia scored 10 points. Mikayla Collins added 8 points and 4 steals.
The Lady Seagulls outscored OHS 19-4 in the first quarter and held the Lady Wildcats to single digit scoring in every quarter.
Raymond forced 26 turnovers and held Ocosta to 28% shooting (9 of 32).
Raymond hosted Morton-White Pass at the tourney Saturday. The Lady Gulls traveled to Rainier Monday night, entertain South Bend Saturday (Jan. 4) and visit Naselle Tuesday (Jan. 7).
