She was preceded in death by her husband, respected pharmacist Eugene R. Boyle, 1972; her infant son, Earl Joseph Boyle, in 1951; her brothers, John Butler Mays, 1927; William Folsom, 1959; her father, William Bailey Mays, 1925; and her mother, Louise Folsom Mays, 1936.
Betty is survived by her children: Ed Boyle, (Bonnie,) Tacoma; Laura Boyle, Bothell; Patricia “Trysh” Peters, Hoquiam; Robert Boyle, (Dena,) Olympia; and Donna Boyle Schwartz, (David,) Newburgh, New York.
She was born April 24, 1921 in Greenville, Fla., graduated from Williston High School in 1940, and married Eugene in 1943, moving to Tacoma in 1945. She graduated Mr. Roberts Beauty School in 1967 and purchased her own beauty shop, Betty’s Beauty Salon in Raymond, when the family relocated to their beach house in Grayland in 1967. She operated a thriving business until retiring in 1990 and moving back to Tacoma to be closer to many of her devoted 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was an accomplished gardener, an avid golfer and enjoyed travel. She was active in her church, serving as an usher for three years at Immaculate Conception Church in Raymond and as an usher for 10 years at St. Patrick’s Church in Tacoma. She was a member of the Emblem Club, Daughters of Scotia and the VFW Auxiliary.
At Betty’s request, no viewing will be held. Arrangements are being made by Edwards Memorial (http://www.edwardsmemorial.com/) in Tacoma. A memorial mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church on Wednesday, December 4 at 11 a.m. Interment and graveside service will follow at Calvary Cemetery on Dec. 4 at 1 p.m.
