Dowell, Bradshaw prevail in Winlock Primary

Winlock mayoral candidates Lonnie J. Dowell and Don Bradshaw have survived the Primary Election ahead of candidate Denise Green, according to preliminary results reported by the Lewis County Auditor’s Office earlier tonight.

Reports stated Dowell, a political novice, had garnered 74 out of 195 total votes while Bradshaw, a former Winlock mayor, received 67 votes with Green, a sitting member of the City Council, close behind at 54 votes.

All three had maintained an active campaign presence within the city and promised to encourage local job growth as well as reform Winlock’s current leadership struggles, which have led to the failures of such projects as a recent unsuccessful attempt to repave First St. using state grant funding.

Incumbent Mayor Glen Cook—himself a novice when elected in 2009—had chosen not to run for reelection but rather an open seat on the City Council, for which he is campaigning against resident Aaron Mummert. Cook and Mummert join resident Sam Patrick and incumbent Dennis Korpi in the race for a council position and will join Dowell and Bradshaw on the Nov. 5 ballot.

While Green’s name will not be appearing on the ballot this fall, her defeat during the Primary does not disallow her from running as a write-in candidate, an opportunity afforded all individuals eligible for the office of which they are running.

Finalized election results are expected to be reported Friday at 11 a.m., with around 200 ballots left to be counted for Lewis County.
