Metal thieves target local rock quarry

A Vader-area rock quarry was burgled by an unknown number of metal thieves in recent weeks, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.

Sometime between Oct. 31 and Nov. 3, thieves broke into the quarry, on the 500 block of Mandy Rd., east of Vader, and stole industrial-grade copper wiring from a rock crusher and other equipment, with the total loss from the damage still being calculated at the time of the report, though estimated to be in the thousands of dollars.

Alarm stops burglary of Toledo residence

A burglar alarm appears to have scared off an unknown number of suspects targeting a Toledo-area residence on Nov. 4, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.

At around 1 p.m. that day, deputies responded to an active burglar alarm at a residence on the 500 block of Jackson Hwy. S, south of Toledo, and discovered a door had been pried open and a window damaged, though it did not appear any items had been taken or vandalized. Investigators said they believe the would-be thieves fled after the alarm was activated.

Outbuilding burgled near Winlock

An outbuilding was reportedly burgled in the Winlock area in recent weeks, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.

The 47-year-old male victim told investigators someone had entered a metal outbuilding at his residence on the 400 block of SR 505, east of Winlock, sometime between Oct. 30 and Nov. 7 and stole two Stihl chainsaws and a Lewis chainsaw wench. It was noted multiple "evidentiary items" were located at the scene, according to reports. The estimated loss is $2,300.
