Three cars totaled in Winlock-area collision

Three local teenagers survived a collision which totaled all of their vehicles near Winlock Aug. 27, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Specific details were not readily available, but it was reported a 16-year-old female had stopped to turn left into the High School parking lot on the 200 block of N. Military Rd., when she was rear-ended by a second vehicle, which was then struck by a third vehicles.

The drivers of all three vehicles were described as 16-years-old and one of them, a female, was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital.

All three cars were described as totaled.

Distracted driver strikes Toledo-owned truck

Districted driving has been named as the cause of a collision in which a driver struck a City of Toledo-owned vehicle Aug. 27, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Public Works Superintendent Craig McCown had been driving a 2001 Chevrolet C1 pickup, owned by Toledo, on SR 505 about 1.5 miles west of the city when a 1988 Toyota R63 pickup, driven by Jacob R. Baker, 21, of Toledo, struck the Chevrolet from behind after it has slowed to make a left turn.

Baker and a 17-year-old passenger in the Chevrolet, also a Toledo employee, were described as injured and transported to Providence Centralia Hospital. Baker was then cited for negligent driving, second degree.

Toledo City Hall stated Friday they have filed an insurance claim in the matter and, though the vehicle has been described by troopers as receiving "reportable" damage, it will remain out of use as while the claim is pending.

Handgun stolen in burglary near Winlock

A handgun was among items reported stolen from a residence near Winlock Aug. 24, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies took a report from the 300 block of Pine Tree Rd., east of Winlock, where the victim stated someone had broken into their residence between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and stole a 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun as well as a red jewelry box and jewelry. The estimated loss is around $500.

Metal thieves hit home near Toledo

Supposed metal thieves hit a home near last week and took wiring and appliances, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

It is believed someone broke into a house on the 200 block of Spencer Rd., northeast of Toledo, between Aug. 26 and 28 and stole two sinks, an ice-making machine and utility wiring, among other item. There was no indication of the estimated value of the missing items.

Attempted burglary near Gee Cee’s Truck Stop

Deputies responded to a report of an attempted burglary in the Toledo area Thursday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

It is believed an unknown number of individuals attempted to break into a building on the 100 block of Foster Creek Rd., west of Toledo, and attempted to pry open a large, metal rollup door. No items were identified as missing and it was not indicated the level of damage sustained by the door.
