County breaks its record for COVID; 175 new cases reported last week

Zip Code Map showing total case locations up to November 18, 2020.

Last week the data for positive COVID-19 cases reported in Pacific County took a huge leap. By Wednesday, November 18, 81 new cases were reported for a total of 246 cases. On Friday, 94 additional positive cases were reported for a total of 340 cases.

This puts Pacific County into the high-risk category with 859 cases per 100k for a rolling 14-day average. Six of the new cases were hospitalized with all other individuals being isolated at home. There are currently 141 active cases being monitored by public health nurses. So far there have been no new deaths. Case investigations and contact tracing are on-going.

Many of the exposures have been identified as household, which means someone in the household exposed the rest of the household members. There have been several workplace exposures in businesses in both north and south county. Social gatherings and community exposure account for many of the cases. Another group of cases was exposed while traveling out of the county and others have been linked to visitors from out of the county. The age range of the cases ranges from babies to people close to 90 years old.

Because of the massive surge in cases, COVID testing resources have become extremely limited in Pacific County. The PCDOH is asking people to access local testing resources only if they are symptomatic or have been identified as a close contact of a positive case.

Pacific County Health and Human Services would like to remind people to take safety precautions which include limiting social gatherings, maintaining social distancing of at least six feet between persons, and practicing personal protective measures to include: correctly wearing a mask/face-covering in public, washing hands often with soapy water for at least 20 seconds, and avoid touching your face.
