Community Fourth of July events

Ryderwood
The community of Ryderwood will be celebrating its 90^th birthday Thursday and many events are scheduled to take place.

At 10:30 a.m., there will be a parade, with the lineup beginning on Second St.

Then at noon at the park, and lasting into the evening, will be a BBQ fundraiser organized by members of the VFW, as well as a picnic potluck and a “Pie Walk” and games after the picnic. Live entertainment will also be at the gazebo.

In a first-of-its-kind endeavor, several local families have organized a community Independence Day celebration to take place by the Post Office, complete with a parade, food vendors and live entertainment.

Most activities will begin at 5 p.m., including a lawnmower parade led by City Council Member Andy Wilson, and live music to include performances by Ruben and Friends, Nehemiah Brown and some open mic opportunities. Portions of the constitution will also be recited during the evening, as well as water balloons for the kids.

At 9 p.m., come rain or most likely lots of shine, the fireworks display will begin and is expected to last at least until 11 p.m. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for the event.

Toledo
St. Helens Tap House owners Chris and Callie Fraser have organized a fireworks show right in downtown Toledo and they hope it will be first of many such Independence Day celebrations to come.

Specials on drinks and food will be offered at their location at 112 Ramsey Way throughout the day. Starting at 6 p.m., a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament will begin, followed by live music by Tammy between 8 and 10 p.m.

Then, at 10 p.m., an extravagant fireworks display is planned to be shot above the Cowlitz River, with the Frasers stating it will not be a display to miss.
