Winlock library sets new fundraising record

A new record of $1,700 was raised by the Winlock Timberland Library last week at the close of their annual silent auction on Wednesday afternoon.

Held to support the activities of the Friends of the Winlock Library, Library Manager Jamie Allwine said the auction’s total could continue to grow as patrons include donations with their payments for auction items.

The previous record had been set last year with more than $1,400 raised.

HRN selling holiday evergreens

The Board of Directors for Human Response Network are selling holiday evergreens for a fundraiser again this year.

These sweet-smelling wreaths, swags, crosses, trees, etc. range in price from $16 to $55 and orders must be placed by Dec. 6. Purchasing is available over the phone, and pickups will be Dec. 16 at 314 SW 15th St. in Chehalis.

Shop With a Cop donations sought

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is seeking donations for the Shop with a Cop program, a wintertime event where underprivileged children are escorted on a shopping spree by local Law Enforcement.

The spree will be held Dec.19 this year and is similar to a program offered through the Chehalis and Centralia Police Department. Donations of financial assistance are being accepted in the form of cash, checks and money orders, and will be used toward the gifts selected by the children. Donations can be mailed by post to Lewis County Sheriff’s Office - Attn: Chief Stacy Brown 345 W. Main St, Chehalis, WA 98532.

Volunteers sought for Vader Walk ‘n Knock

The Vader Lions Club is lining up drivers, walkers and sorters for the annual Walk ‘n Knock Food Drive taking place this Saturday.

If you can help, please contact Lions President Carol Broom at (360) 295-3801. We will gather at the Vader Lions Hall at 9 a.m. and start collections at 10 a.m. We finish around 1 p.m. Volunteers will receive lunch. All food and money collected will be donated to the Winlock-Vader Food Bank to help our neighbors in need.

Vader Lions hosting Kids Christmas Party

The Vader Lions Club will be hosting their annual Kids Christmas Party Dec. 14 at the Lions Hall (corner of 7th St and B St.) from 10 a.m. to noon.

Snacks and activities for children will be taking place including face-painting, holiday crafts and gifts from Santa. This event is free and open to families within the Vader community. For more information, call Club Secretary Kathy Crawford at (360) 431-2475.

Strengthening Families open for registration

Registration for the Strengthening Families program is taking place with classes expected to begin Jan. 14.

Located at the Assembly of God, this weekly program, sponsored by the State of Washington, is offered for free to families with school-aged children and is intended to help teach communication and conflict resolution skills, among other day-to-day issues.
