CR church to host cooking class

The Castle Rock Seventh-day Adventist Church will host Simply Cooking, a plant-based class led by Ronni Reinecke, on Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m.

The Topic is Holiday Fare, with free samples, recipe handouts and information. Please call Wanda at (360) 967-2165 to reserve your place in this popular monthly class.

The Church is located at 7531 Old Pacific Hwy. N. in Castle Rock.

Time is nearing for PIFF entries

It’s time to start thinking about your next entry for the Plomondon Independent Film Festival, scheduled to take place Feb. 15 and 16.

The deadline for entries is Jan. 28 and independent filmmakers are being asked to submit pieces ranging from 30 seconds to 30 minutes in a multitude of categories, including comedy, drama, sci-fi, horror, animation, documentary, avant garde and more. The winners in the categories will take home the ever-coveted Piffy Award, and join the annals of local filmmakers who have participated in this 9-year-old event.

Fall Family Festival in Vader

The Vader Assembly of God Church will be hosting a Fall Family Festival Thursday from 6 - 8 p.m., for children up to 12 years old.

Come join us for games, food, prizes and fun! Costumes are welcome, but please, no scary outfits. Children must be accompanied by an adult during the event.

Winlock celebrating Halloween

Businesses in Downtown Winlock will be handing out candy and welcoming trick-or-treaters Thursday night for Halloween, and members of the community are welcome to participate.

Part of an ongoing tradition among area stores, children and families are welcome to visit local shops between 3 and 5 p.m. for trick-or-treating. To find a participating business, just look for the orange pumpkin in the window.

Trick-or-treaters are reminded that some establishments, especially banks, appreciate costumes without masks or head coverings while in their stores.

Winlock Fundariser for meningitis victim

A fundraiser has been scheduled for Saturday at the Winlock Community Building to benefit meningitis victim Elianna Neumann.

Neumann, of Woodland, was diagnosed in September and has had to endure more than a month in the hospital and must currently be under 24-hour home care.

To help Neumann and her family, her great aunt Angela Tover has organized a spaghetti feed, bake sale, yard sale and raffle Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Community Building, and everyone is invited to come and show your support.
