Mukana Marimba to Perform at Salkum Summer Garden Party

The musical ensemble Mukana Marimba will perform at the Salkum Timberland Library as part of the Library’s Summer Garden Party, Thursday, Aug. 7 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.

Mukana Marimba plays music in the style of the Shona people of Zimbabwe on a full set of seven marimbas (similar to large wooden xylophones) played with mallets. The soprano instruments make bright singing tones while the bass and baritone marimbas create deep bouncy beats. A set of gourd shakers called “hosho” provides accompaniment. The instruments, colorful dress and high energy of the players make Mukana fun to watch as well as to hear. To learn more, visit www.mukanamarimba.com.

The Summer Garden Party is Salkum Timberland Library’s major event of the season. Refreshments will be provided by Friends of the Salkum Timberland Library.

The Salkum Timberland Library and the Master Gardeners Demonstration Garden are both located at 2480 US Highway 12. For more information, please contact the library at (360) 985-2148 or go to www.TRL.org.
