The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently authorized updated COVID-19 boosters meant to protect recipients from common COVID-19 Omicron strains. The state Department of Health is planning a fall rollout for the updated booster.
Additions to Assistance Program Will Better Support
Low-Income Washingtonians Age 65+, Blind or Disabled
Effective Sept. 1, maximum payments to Aged, Blind, or Disabled (ABD) Cash Assistance Program participants will increase thanks to funding from the state's 2022 supplemental budget. Individuals who are over 65, blind, or disabled often live on the margins of Washington communities. Increased payments and ongoing legislative focus may help support these vulnerable persons. This is the first increase in ABD grant amounts since 2011.
Winlock School District students are back to class and there are new staff as well. Tia Frazier is the new middle school counselor and athletic director for the high school. Tia comes to Winlock from Texas and she has the heart to go with her Texas roots.
The first day of school at Toledo School District was a first for the schools in our area. After delivering all the students to their homes, a school bus caught fire and is a total loss.
MENLO - Willapa Valley Schools got off to a strong start for the 2022-23 school year with two days of educator training last Monday (August 29) and Tuesday (August 30). Students went back to school last Wednesday.
"We welcomed 10 terrific new staff members this year, which in itself is exciting, and many are beginning their first year in the classroom, which has heightened the anticipation for this new school year," Willapa Valley School District Superintendent Nancy Morris told the Herald.
