Last Friday marked the 75th day of this year's 105-day legislative session and most legislation without a fiscal impact needed to pass out of committee this week to be considered further.

On Thursday, the House Appropriations Committee approved legislation to strengthen the Office of Cybersecurity's ability to protect data across all state agencies. The bill now goes to the House Rules Committee, where it can be pulled to the floor for a vote.

On Friday, legislation that would move Washington state towards regional health districts was voted out of the Senate Health and Long-Term Care Committee. The bill, which would improve public health by increasing resources and coordination, now goes to the Senate Ways and Means Committee for further consideration.

More governor-request legislation is scheduled for hearings in the coming days, with a low carbon fuel standard scheduled for a Hearing in Senate Ways and Means on Saturday, and a hearing on establishing an office of independent Investigations in Ways and Means on Tuesday.

The House and Senate also announced their 2021-2023 Budget proposals last week. The 105-day legislative session is set to run through the end of April.

1 Million Washingtonians Fully

Vaccinated; 3 Million Doses Given

Last week, the state crossed two major milestones in its ongoing COVID-19 vaccination efforts: The 1 millionth Washingtonian became fully vaccinated, and the state surpassed more than 3 million doses administered.

The Country House has a new owner and is set to succeed. In September of 2020, Choi bought the restaurant, changing the menu to Asian food along with American sandwiches. For the first time ever, Lewis County has Asian food available for delivery in the Toledo area. Choi has years of experience cooking fabulous Asian food.

Choi has worked in many restaurants around the country, starting at Mr. Wasabi in New York. After a couple of years, he moved to Alaska and continued cooking Asian food. He saved at each of these jobs, he wanted to be in Washington and be his own boss. He spent a year in Washington working for Happy Teriyaki before he bought the Country House. Now Choi is his own boss.

Roy Richards spent a lifetime gathering pieces of history in Winlock. He LOVED the community and was adored by many. In 2008, Roy and his wife Linda opened a museum called "Renegade Rooster" just outside of the small town, to showcase Winlock's history.

SOUTH BEND - A decent crowd attended the first track and field meet of the season on a cool, slightly windy, partly sunny Thursday at Don Weisel Oval on the campus of South Bend HS. Raymond won the girls' side and Naselle came away with the boys' team title. A total of five teams competed.

"I was happy with the results from our first meet," Raymond HS head coach Mike Tully told the Herald. "I think we performed as well as can be expected after eight practices.

"Kyra's marks were quite good for this time of year," Tully said. "Her long jump mark was a career best by almost five inches and tied the Raymond junior class record. Her high jump mark was only two inches off her career best, so she's pretty close there as well. I'm looking for her to do some pretty impressive things as the season progresses.

The new metrics for Phase 3 have started. The two key metrics for Pacific County are that we must have less than 100 new cases over 14 days and less than three hospitalizations over 7 days.

Pacific County reported 9 cases over the last 14 days last week with only 6 cases still actively being monitored by the public nurses. This brings the total number of cases since the state of the pandemic to 839.

Only one person has been hospitalized with COVID over the last 7 days and there has been no new deaths.
