Napavine had a busy first day back! There were many things to be done in order to prepare for this next school year. Among those tasks, students needed to acquaint themselves with their new schedules and possibly a teacher they've never had before.
This week there will be a fundraiser event sponsored by the Windermere Foundation hosted by Paula Burrows of Windermere Centralia, Bonanza BBQ & Catering, and Farmers Insurance Toledo. All proceeds raised will benefit the Toledo School District children with basic needs. It's called the "Down Home, a Toledo WA Shindig" and everyone is invited to attend.
The event sounds like it will be a lively one with music performed by Tony Branco and Gubmint Cheese. There will also be a live, silent, and dessert auction, and of course a delicious "all you can eat" BBQ meal catered by the folks at Bonanza BBQ. Salads and fruit are by the Crowded Kitchen. As you can see, it is an event that the businesses in Toledo are supporting.
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources released an updated tsunami simulation model on Tuesday, August 27. The model shows the potential scenario if a Cascadia Subduction Zone quake were to erupt. The updated information has provided both state and local agencies along with residents on the coastline a glimpse of what to expect.
Minutes expected to matter
The new model shows that should a CSZ quake strike off the coastline the Long Beach Peninsula would have a 15-20 minute window before a large caliber tsunami would strike the area. Areas such as Tokeland would be in the same window of time but further into the valley, those near Bay Center may have up to 45 minutes. Raymond and South Bend both are anticipated to have approximately 60-90 minutes before being impacted.
