Napavine is headed to state, the Napavine Tigers beat out Adna by a 32-13 margin making their way to the Tacoma Dome on Friday after to play Kalama in the state finals at 4:00 p.m.

Senior Dawson Stanley was the hit of the evening. The senior succeeded on 8 out of 17 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran with the ball 36 times with a total of 237 yard and and additional 3 more scores.

The Lewis County "Walk and Knock" will take place this Saturday, December 1 beginning at 10:00 a.m. This is the largest food drive in our area and an important part of our local food banks.

Winlock, Toledo, and Vader will have their volunteers out in full force in the morning, collecting bags of canned food to keep the food banks open throughout the year. The bags will be delivered in your local community paper, and filled bags should be placed on your front porch by 10:00 a.m. If you have a no trespassing sign, bags can still be placed in front of your gate or you can drop them off at one of the drop off locations.

The Winlock City Council meeting on November 12, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. started out as a usual council meeting. The flag salute started the meeting in motion but later in the meeting the audience erupted into clapping for Desarno's Treasures.

Desiree Bowers, owner of Desarno's Treasures, received a letter from city hall giving her 14 days to come up with almost $2800 to turn on her water and sewer per the Winlock ordinance that all businesses must supply public restrooms to customers. Bowers addressed the council and Mayor Bradshaw by stating, "I am here tonight to ask for a variance." Bowers opened her thrift store approximately 2½ years ago and was informed by the previous administration at that time that she did not need to connect to water and sewer even though the ordinance was in effect at that time.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency released their 2018 winter outlook in October. Most of the western United States is expected to see warmer than normal temperatures and a high likelihood of an El Nino phenomenon.

Several controversial initiatives passed by large margins during the November 6 general election. Two are expected to be challenged in lawsuits with lengthy court battles expected to ensue. Initiatives 940 and 1639 passed while 1631 was lone to fall short.

Initiative 940 now requires law enforcement agencies statewide to take specialized training in de-escalation to avoid deadly force encounters. Officers will be required to use "good faith" before they're able to justify using deadly force. The law will also require them to render aid to an injured suspect immediately.

Team Expectations are at a high premium for Willapa Valley boys basketball. The Vikings return experience, good shooting, pretty good speed and even some height. The opener is tonight at Tenoski Gym in Menlo versus rival Raymond. The Vikings then take to the road to Lacey Friday for another Pacific League encounter against Northwest Christian. Valley was 17-6 last season after losing a couple of heartbreaking games at district.
