Windows on Education: Thankful for the Opportunity to Teach

After college, I began a career as a stock broker. Having been a poor college student, the appeal of making a good deal of money was hard to ignore. However, it did not take long for me to realize that receiving a good salary did not guarantee happiness at work. As I looked around for something more appealing, I found the idea of working in military intelligence and learning Russian to be exciting. Five years later, the appeal had largely faded. After being discharged from the Army I went back to school to get my Master's degree and found my true calling. In 1990, I began to teach high school students in Colville, Washington.

Napavine volleyball brings plaque home from state

On Nov. 9, the Napavine volleyball team left for the State 2B volleyball tournament. After a long drive to Yakima, the girls settled into their hotel. In the Sundome, the girls were anxious to start. The team faced a loss with Colfax, but would win their two games on Friday. The only teams the girls lost were in the championship. The seniors were Melissa Lee, Abbigail Music, Tyler Colburn, Mollie Olson and Madelyn Thompson. The senior girls have attended the State volleyball tournament every single year of their high school career.

New automotive shop plans to give back to community

Full Throttle Automotive has opened its doors for service in South Bend.

Andy Preinesberger has taken over Ken's Garage with his own automotive repair business. Even before he officially opened his business he was busy, busy, busy. A loyal customer pushed his way in and had the honor of giving Andy his first dollar, which is now signed and framed on the wall.

Raymond and South Bend residents in 3-vehicle collision

On Monday, Nov. 20, six local residents were involved in a collision several miles south of Montesano on Highway 107. The Washington State Patrol report states that there were seven people involved in the three-vehicle incident.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley blasted off to a 15-6 lead against No. 1 ranked Kalama, and then the undefeated Chinooks showcased just why they're billed as the best team in the Class 2B ranks by scoring the last 44 points of the game during Friday night's quarterfinal state playoff game played on Kalama's home turf.
