If You Want To Change Things...

One of the gifts of living in a representative democracy is that voting is only one of the rights it confers. For ordinary people who want to make change -- who in some way want to alter their neighborhood or town or state or even the nation -- the promise exists that by dint of their own efforts they can do so. This is a precious gift.

But it is not an easy one to enjoy. Even in a democracy, bringing about significant change requires hard work -- a level of intensity and commitment beyond the ordinary responsibilities of citizenship. You need a workable, achievable remedy that will correct the problem you're worried about. You need patience and perseverance, and a specific set of skills and capabilities.

Dick Bowen isn't just a life long resident of Winlock, he is also a Korean War Veteran. He was born and raised in Winlock, Washington, graduating in 1949. He was in Korea for a year and his experience there shaped him for the rest of his life.

Winlock revving up for basketball

The Winlock Boys Basketball needs your help this year and the way to help them will be a gift that will last through the entire year. They are looking for business and individual sponsors to assist these young men with the expenses of the basketball season.

Last year the donations helped to provide at no cost to the players themselves, shooting shirts, T-shirts, socks, balls, team dinners and spring/summer and fall tournaments. In their third year at Winlock they are expecting another wonderful participation among high school boys and with that comes more expenses. This is where the community can help.
