Computerized Fabric could Revolutionize Fitness Tracking

It's 2017 and now more than ever people are starting to take into consideration their health and fitness. In doing so most people end up purchasing some type of fitness tracker to assist in keeping tabs on their individual fitness progress. However, these fitness trackers can be cumbersome and bulky as most are made with rubber, plastics and other inflexible materials.

Enter a team of researchers from Harvard Universities Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering. They have developed an elastic fabric-based sensor that detects and transmits data on a very wide range of human movements. These sensors might just be incorporated into future generations of smart apparel, essentially turning your clothing into a computer.

Pastor of Winlock Methodist Church, Susan Griggs, has been in Winlock for a year. She has become involved in the city and with its residents. She has helped the school district and would like to see the Spanish-speaking citizens become more involved in the community.

Burlington asks for temporary easement of Winolequa Park

Recently the City of Winlock Park Board negotiated use of the Winolequa Park with Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) railroad for a temporary easement for use of the Park during construction. BNSF will pay the City of Winlock $75,000 prior to occupying the site as compensation for use of the park during the construction of the Olequa Bridge.

Toledo Threshing Bee a hot success

Threshing Bee in Toledo took place this past weekend and it was a packed house or should I say packed fields. They started Friday evening with the parade and things continued into Saturday and Sunday. It was a beautiful weekend and the event went on without a hitch. Lewis Zion who helps coordinate this with the Cowlitz Grange stated "all in all it was a great event."

Fatality blocks SR12 for over six hours

The Washington State Patrol responded to a pedestrian versus vehicle report Friday, August 25 at 11:52 p.m. for miles east of Montesano on highway 12.

A silver 2016 Landrover driven by Marcy Peterson, a 55 year old Aberdeen woman, was traveling westbound on SR 12 in the right-hand lane.

Highway 101 was blocked for over two hours in the early morning on Friday, August 25. Just ten miles north of Raymond on highway 101 near milepost 70, the WSP responded to a collision report around 6:34 a.m.

Willapa Bay Resistance joins Northwest Detention Center Protest

On August 12, 20 members of four local civil rights groups made a trip to the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma to join a protest regarding 27 ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) arrests that have been made in the area over the past 18 months.
