Rossetti heard feedback directly from citizens within the 19th Legislative District about their ideas and comments.

Kevin Darst is the new Investigations Commander at the Aberdeen Police Department (APD), and has signed on as of Monday, January 11. Darst is from the area, and has worked at the Aberdeen Police Department for 23 plus years, "I started here in '92, and did patrol for about three years," Darst explained, "and then I was selected for investigation for four years. I was made Sergeant and got put back on the road for three or four years and then I've been a Lieutenant for the last twelve plus years.

On Tuesday January 19th at about 4:16PM, Aberdeen police officers were advised of a shooting which had just occurred near the intersection of Harding Road and Huntley Street in South Aberdeen.

The Dukes Of Swing will hold their first dance of the new year on Thursday, January 28th from 7PM-9PM at the Aberdeen Elks Lodge located at 1712 S. Boone Street in Aberdeen.

The Hoquiam Police Department made an arrest over the January 16-17 weekend, after a man had allegedly failed to report to county custody while on a medical furlough. Records indicate that the 55 year old man was in custody waiting for court on a felony assault charge for violating a no contact order.

On Saturday, March 12 the Pac-12 Conference will honor 12 former student athletes with an induction into the Pac-12 Men's Basketball Hall of Honor, one of which originates from Hoquiam. The induction will occur during a ceremony that is slated to be held just before the championship game at the 2016 Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament, held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Knights of Columbus Council #1674 has earned the distinction of Double Star Council, for the 2014-2015 fraternal year. This award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of membership recruitment (reaching 200% of quota, thereby making it a "double star") and retention, promotion of the fraternal insurance program, and sponsorship of service-oriented activities. The award was presented to the membership by State Advocate & Membership Director Kim Washburn, at a special ceremonial banquet held on January 15, 2016 at Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church in Hoquiam, WA.

A Port Orchard resident had driven off the roadway four miles south of Montesano on State Route 107 on Thursday, January 21 at around 1:02pm. The driver was driving a truck and trailer with a tanker on the back of it.

The turnout for the showing of the historic 1926 silent movie about Long-Bell was impressive. The Auditorium was "standing room only" with a head count of at least 170. The panel members were very helpful in narrating and explaining the various operations involved in transforming standing timber into kiln-dried lumber. The Cowlitz Co. Historical Museum was instrumental in making this event so successful. They furnished the digital projector and two of the panelists, Jim Tweedie and Jim LeMonds, are researchers for the Museum. DVD copies of the movie can be ordered by calling the Museum at (360) 577-3119.

Starting Feb. 1, accounting students will be available at Centralia College to help you complete your 2015 tax returns.

Libraries have become creative "maker" spaces in the 21st century. A good example of this trend is the drop-in crafts program at the Centralia Timberland Library. People are invited to drop in any time on Saturday, January 30, during library open hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., to create handmade postcards in time for Valentine's Day. The library will provide all supplies except postage stamps.

For the second City Council Meeting of the year the Toledo Council gathered together for another meeting with full attendance.

I thought it was time for a little stroll down memory lane for those of us who have been around Winlock for a while. How many of you remember the old school? There was a school in Winlock when I was young that was both the grade school, middle school and high school all rolled in to one. I can remember being a kid in the old school and the upstairs was roped off, we were sure the upstairs was haunted and that is why they had it roped off. There were also posts that were by the football field and boy did we jump those, we used to see who could jump the highest one without hurting oneself. This was a time when Winlock was a town like Mayberry, everyone knew everyone and no one was a stranger.

Winter storms cause tremendous stress and severe damage to trees in the urban forest. Snapped or downed trees should be removed, but what about a tree that only suffers minor damage? How can a homeowner tell if a tree is safe enough to keep?

The Elma Chamber of Commerce has held their 9th Winter Wine Festival. The festival was held at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds and Event Center in Elma on the weekend of Saturday, January 23 and yielded a huge success. Live performance lounge acts crooned the crowds as vast lines of people moved along the perimeter of the building where the wine vendors lined the walls. The wine vendors dished up samples of all types of their best wines and consumers and connoisseurs lined up to try each wine of their interest.

Matthew M. Pearson, 31, of Seaview was sentenced to 22 months in prison for attempting to elude a police vehicle and escape from community custody.

Paul was born August 28, 1960, he spent most of his life in the Lebam area. He is survived by his mother, one brother, one sister, and other extended family.

Renee Laird was born April 11, 1959 at Willapa Harbor Hospital, and passed away on Dec. 26, 2015.

A 55-year old male was rescued from the river near Ilwaco on Sunday, January 17, and had been found clinging to his kayak in Baker Bay near Ilwaco. The MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from the Coast Guard Air Station in Astoria was able to hoist the kayaker out of the water after locating him in the bay around 8pm, and the man was safely transported to waiting emergency medical service personnel at the air station.

Razor clam diggers have one day left with a dig scheduled today at Long Beach with a low tide at 8:39 pm at 0.5 feet. Washington's recreational razor clam harvest opened for the second tide series last Thursday.
