Last Thursday, Ryderwood was honored with a visit from a remarkable woman who grew up in Ryderwood when it was known as "The World's Largest Logging Camp". If I got the facts straight: she arrived in 1928 and left about 22 years later. She attended and graduated from the Ryderwood School; attended and taught vacation Bible school at the Ryderwood Community Church; married a logger; and her first two sons were delivered by Dr. Sulis in Pioneer Hall.

The rankings of the 20th most safest and most peaceful places to live in Washington is out. Winlock made it on the list! We who live here know this but to see it out is a great thing for our community. I was reading on Facebook the other day and I saw someone had written about Winlock being on a list, thought maybe it was for the usual "The World's Largest Egg" but it wasn't. This is what was written about our beautiful little town; "Your mind may be scrambled after you see The World's Largest Egg, featured in this secure farmland town with a population of 1,300+!" Congratulation to the City of Winlock for making it on the list. I would give you a number but it did state "in no ranking" order but it was number 6; that had to mean something, right?
As the beginning of school approaches, we begin the various rituals that have become associated with the big event. Calendars start to become a little more important. We do these things, as well as make other preparations, because we want to make sure our kids have the best possible start to school.
