Commercial Street construction closing streets
Commercial Street construction closing streets

The street construction along Commercial Street in Raymond has recently been expanded to the full project length that runs from Raymond High School to Highway 101, and from 101 to Third Street. Traffic is not allowed to utilize Commercial Street coming off Highway 101.

Alternate routes for locations along Commercial Street have been designated as using Duryea Street or Heath Street. Connecting alleyways or streets are blocked off at Commercial Street but are still usable up to that point.

Perales pleads guilty

Marcos Antionio Perales, 19, of South Bend entered a guilty plea to four counts of rape of a child in the first degree and one count of child molestation in the first degree and is schedule for sentencing on October 23, 2015 at 3:00 PM where it is anticipated that he will receive a prison sentence of life with a minimum of 25 years.

South Bend changes insurance for city coverage

The South Bend City Council met the night of Monday, August 9 for the regular bi-monthly city council meeting. After the council pledged allegiance, the council approved the consent agenda, paying out just over $170,500 in vendor checks and payroll, as well as the minutes from the previous meeting. Mayor Struck moved the meeting into the next segment by introducing a letter of congratulations from the Department of Ecology that recognizes that South Bend's Waste Water Treatment Plant has gone without any violations for the entire year of 2014.

Bluegrass festival held in Toledo

The thirty-first annual Mount St. Helens Bluegrass Festival was held at the Toledo High School this last weekend, which heralded a record attendance despite the cancellations of several performers.

"A lot of people attended and a lot of new people came. People really like Phillip Steinmetz & His Sunny Tennesseans and Tommy Brown & The County Line Grass from Kentucky. A lot of seniors with senior tickets came to the local area," said General Cothren, president of the Washington Bluegrass Association.

A recent graduate of Winlock High School, Collins is looking for a future in journalism and will be attending Lower Columbia Community College in her pursuit at achieving a degree in Communications and Journalism, finishing at Washington State University, Vancouver.

Lewis County 2015 Primary Election results

Voter turnout for the 2015 primary election crested just over 26% with 5,453 registered voters taking part in the election of the 20, 956 voters registered.


Coming out of the primary in the Mayoral races the run in Napavine shows incumbent John Sayers making it through to the general election in November with Jenifer Slemp who drew 38% of the primary votes. Slemp holds a 10% margin over Sayers at this point, with just over 100 votes to divide up coming November.
