Over the past few months Governor Jay Inslee has moved the drought needle from a partial drought in May extending the drought for the state in April and now 98.6% of the State of Washington is considered to be in a severe drought.
Washington State Ecology Director Maia Bellon advises that if conditions remain the same, all 39 counties in the state of Washington will qualify for Federal Disaster Relief because of drought conditions.
"The state is considered to be in a severe drought conditions. Conditions worse than we saw in 2001 or 2005," said Bellon, "I have said it before and it remains true today, we have never experienced a drought like this."
A walk in the park turned out to be a little more than a couple of girls from Lewis County were expecting, last week.
"We went out for a walk at the South Lewis County Park Pond (Wallace's Pond) and started seeing dead fish," was the story from Katie Mullert and Madison McLean.
When they were done they had counted at least 111 dead trout in and around the pond.

The 15th annual Relay for Life of Willapa Bay will be held at the Raymond High School on Saturday, July 18 at 12pm and will go until midnight.
The organization hopes to raise over $41,000 this year, and money raised at the Relay for Life will go toward the American Cancer Society's research, education and other efforts to end cancer. With nine teams participanting so far, and 104 individuals, the current total raised is closing in on $23,000.
This past weekend opened up the harvest for Blueberries with local residents making their way out Smith Creek to grab a few handfuls of the ample berries at the Smith Creek U-Pick Blueberry Patch.

Thursday July 16, Liz Schroeder erected her hand carved homemade totem pole, and Roy Wilson, Spiritual Leader of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe, made an appearance to bless it. Schroeder, and two other companions, Tam Hinck and John Fielding have been in the works with the totem pole for almost a year and a half. Schroeder had been interested to try woodcarving, and took the necessary steps and found the appropriate people to help her after she had been gifted a cedar log.

An adult and teenager are in custody after an attempted murder in Winlock Saturday evening.

An anonymous amnesty prescription drop box is now available for public use located outside of the Sheriff's office and Public Safety building. A ribbon cutting will be held Thursday, July 16 at 12pm and the public is encouraged to attend.

The Willapa Players' Children's program will be presenting two one act shows for their summer program. "The Haunting of Chip Lake Lodge" by J. Robery Wilkins and "The BFG" by Roald Dahl will be performed by 15 local youth. The show will run Friday July 17 and Saturday July 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday July 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hanna Playhouse of 8th Street in Raymond.
The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to give blood in August and help meet the constant need for blood products by patients. Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood.
Summer is an especially difficult time to collect enough blood to meet the needs of hospital patients. Despite travel and other activities that may cause some donors to be less available to give, the Red Cross must collect 15,000 blood donations every day to meet the needs of patients at approximately 2,600 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country.

Amber Anderson and Claire Borg, ninth graders at Willapa Valley Middle School, in Menlo, earned gold medals for their STAR Event in Washington DC. Almost 8,000 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members, advisers, alumni, and guests from across the country gathered in Washington DC for the 2015 National Leadership Conference. The conference was based on the student-originated theme "Together We Are....Healthy." Amber and Claire were among the 4100 members and took part in STAR Event Competitions at the conference. The girls helped celebrate FCCLA's 70th birthday, attended workshops on teen issues and were able to tour several museums, monuments, and government buildings at our nation's capital.

The Renegade Rooster-Winlock History Collection is a place where you can find many things of days gone by. Roy Richards is a great guy, he has a huge collection of items from Winlock and the area that show items that we used around here many years ago.
