Valley native Joel Black has moved to the big state capital but hasn't lost the giving spirit engrained in him by the local community. A Pacific Lutheran University graduate and employee at the Washington State Department of Revenue, Black finds time to volunteer as co-executive director at Olympia's branch of StandUp for Kids, a nation-wide nonprofit that aims to reduce youth homelessness.

SOUTH BEND - In the last five months, Washington has faced two of the worst natural disasters in its history - the Oso mudslide, where 43 lives were taken when an unstable hill collapsed, and the recent Carlton Complex wildfires, in which over 300 homes were lost.

Toledo Community Library open at last
Toledo Community Library open at last

After more than a year of planning and seeking community support, the Toledo Community Library is now up and running, with services and offerings expected to grow in the coming months.

Open officially as of this morning, to the eager anticipation of local residents, the library currently features thousands of books across many genres, as well as movies and periodicals, all available to check out for free to community members.
