Annual Veterans Day Parade coming up

Toledo is preparing for the annual Lewis County Veterans Day parade and those who wish to march with service members are encouraged to sign up in the coming days.

Taking place Nov. 9 at noon on Augustus St., veterans from across the area are invited to attend and participate, with a ceremony scheduled to take place immediately afterward at the Veterans Wall of Honor in Kemp Olson Park.

Local residents participating in exchange program to Japan

A group of area residents will be departing today on a cultural exchange trip to Japan as part the ongoing activities of the Chehalis sister city program.

Eleven individuals from cities including Chehalis, Centralia, Toledo and Winlock will be traveling to the town of Inasa, a small rural community similar in size to those in Lewis County.

Ryderwood craft fair showcases local artisans

The ninth annual Ryderwood Arts and Crafts Fair took place last weekend, kicking off the start of the 2013 holiday bazaar season.

Craftspeople from Ryderwood, as well as the local area, were present with their hand-made wares, including newcomers Andrea Read and daughter Natalie Read.

Winlock library seeking auction doantions

The Winlock Timberland Library is seeking donations for their annual silent auction fundraiser, scheduled to begin Nov. 12 and run through Nov. 27.

The auction is organized by the Friends of the Winlock Library and serves as their most significant fundraising effort throughout the year, with last year’s auction raising $1,400 toward ongoing library activities.

Castle Rock proposes zoning amendment for recreational marijuana

The Castle Rock City Council is expected to have discussed potential regulations for recreational marijuana facilities during their Monday meeting after members of the Planning Commission vetted the regulations Wednesday night.

Based on a draft ordinance submitted by the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) Oct. 18, the proposed regulations would confine all facilities for the cultivation and distribution of recreational marijuana to a commercial zone just east of Exit 48, known as the C-2 Highway Business District, as well as establish a conditional use permitting process.

Castle Rock Girls Soccer Takes Care of Business

The Lady Rocket soccer team took 2nd place White Salmon to overtime before allowing a goal in the first minute of the overtime. Jaynie Snaza scored goals for CR in the 32nd and 47th minutes.

"We had White Salmon," said CR Head Coach Brian Ziese on Thursday evening after The Rocket’s 3-0 victory over King’s Way Christian. "Tonight was the big game because we had that win that nobody else had. We just have to get that 9th win and earn a playoff spot."

Castle Rock took care of business at home on senior night during a 1A Trico League match-up. With Homecoming in the air, Castle Rock scored six touchdowns in a variety of ways. QB Mason Klingberg ran for two touchdowns and passed for one. In all, he passed for 52 yards, and carried the ball for 125 yards. Shawn Godinho was the recipient of one of Klingberg’s passes for a touchdown. Zac Akesson ran back a kickoff for a score and workman Nate Williamson scored the opening TD for the Rockets and ran for 125 yards. Tanner Catlin also crossed into the end zone for CR.
