The 2013-2013 school budget for Raymond School District was approved last month after a late state legislature pushed back the date about a month. The budget approves the school to spend $6,977,403, with total revenue of $7,111,054.

The South Bend Fire Department responded to a residential fire at 724 Dakota St. in South Bend late Sunday night (Aug. 4). The fire caused a “spot fire” on the roof of a neighbor’s house at 728 Dakota St., according to South Bend Fire Chief Alan Ashley.
The Pacific County Fair in Menlo Washington will be offering free P-T testing for poultry owners exhibiting in the fair. Testing will take place on animal entry day of the fair, Tuesday, August 20, from 3-6 p.m. Bring your home raised birds for testing then enter them in the fair!

The Centralia College diesel technology program received a major economic boost when NC Machinery donated $10,000. The National Caterpillar Foundation indicated it will donate an equal amount.
Miles Folks, manager of the Chehalis NC Machinery plant, presented the check to college officials.
Providence Centralia Hospital Diabetes and Nutrition Center and the Providence Boldt Diabetes Center are accepting applications for a 16-week program starting Sept. 11 to help those at risk for diabetes to avoid or delay developing the disease.
"Type 2 diabetes is one of the fastest growing diagnosis in the U.S. and in our area," said Linda Gooding, Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator from the Providence Boldt Diabetes Center. "This class will help those at risk for Type 2 diabetes lose weight through healthy eating and physical activity."

General Cotheren was still sweating the financial side of the 29th Mount St. Helens Bluegrass Festival on Friday. The event was held on the grounds of Toledo High School over the weekend, but the rest of the audience was more than satisfied with the product and experience on stage and among the oaks.
"I am still hoping for a big crowd on Saturday night," Cotheren said as he gazed at Friday night's audience numbering in the early hundreds.
Jade Hill and Derrick Watts were astonished Aug. 2 at the Toledo’s Red Apple Market by an anonymous act of generosity. Recovering their composure, they "paid it forward" to the patron in line behind them.
Coming up short at the checkout counter, Jade selected a couple items to return but was informed by the clerk, "It's paid for."

She was preceded in death by father Fred Blum, mother Pearl Blum and brother James Blum. Blue Array, the company which has been testing its portable sewage treatment technology in Vader since the end of last summer, has concluded their system not only works but could be inexpensive enough to offer to cities for free.
Co-owner James Reilly says the last several months have allowed his company to learn the portable systems, housed in shipping containers, are around one quarter the cost of original estimates to fabricate (roughly $400,000 rather than $2 million) and far less complex to maintain than expected.
The Toledo City Council is reviewing their utility billing policies after hearing a complaint from a property owner who says he is being charged for services the city is not rendering.
Local property owner Roger Johnigk submitted a formal complaint to the council during their Aug. 5 meeting with legal representative Jim Nelson stating the city is billing Johnigk the equivalent of nine hookups for his apartment complex at 550 N 5th St. when only two water meters physically service the building.
Officer Randy Steger, 29, had been traveling westbound on SR 6, west of Chehalis, on a 2007 Harley Davidson when he attempted to pass a 1984 Chevrolet pickup that had slowed to make a left-hand turn. Steger struck the driver’s side of the truck, suffering a laceration to his foot, though neither the 22-year-old driver of the truck nor the 20-year-old passenger, both of Centralia, were injured.
