Indians second at Naselle

South Bend junior Dennis Johnson won the long jump and triple jump at a four-team track and field meet at Naselle last Thursday. Johnson went 41 feet in the triple jump and had a mark of 17 feet, 9½ inches in the long jump. Northwest Christian easily won the meet with 114 points, followed by South Bend (61), Naselle (33) and Taholah (28).

South Bend’s boys won the 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:51.26 with runners Nathan Kunke, Austin Lewis, Jose Bucio and Cohen Hansen. 

Spencer Case took first place in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 2 inches. Case placed second in the javelin with a distance of 140 feet, 10 inches; Hansen was fifth at 119-3. Case was also third in the discus at 94-11 and Dakota Halverson was fourth at 93-06. Case ended up with a third-place effort in the shot put at 37-5 and Halverson was fifth at 36-1.

The Indians took second place in the 400 relay with a time of :48.96 with runners Kunke, Lewis, Bucio and Johnson.

Lewis ran second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of :46.92 and Tristan Hansen was third at :47.36. Bucio finished third in the 800 at 2:20.39 and the freshman was fourth in the 1600 at 5:37.46. Kunke finished fourth in the 200 with a clocking of :25.52.

South Bend won all three relay races and Makenzie Russell won two events, including the triple jump (30 feet, 10 inches) and high jump (5 feet, 1 inch) to help the Lady Indians to a second-place finish of three teams at Naselle last Thursday. Northwest Christian won the meet with 105 points and South Bend scored 93 points.
