My apologies that I didn’t get an article in last week’s paper – that’s the way it goes sometimes. It’s fair to say that not a whole lot has been going on during the cold weather. Bundling up and staying indoors is a good thing at this time of year. Naps are good, too! All are good defenses against exposure to that pesky flu. Avoid “hand to mouth” contact at every turn.

Tribal government was in the hands of chiefs, whose offices were either hereditary or obtained by some special merit. The Salish inter-tribal word for the English word “chief” was “Tyee,” which would have been better translated in to English as “headman” rather than chief.

Fallen teachers receiving Medals of Honor from Lewis County Fire District 15

After last month’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., Lewis County Fire District 15 Commissioner Randy Pennington said he encountered many local individuals who wanted to know how they could help respond to such a tragedy.

Twenty-seven people had been killed that day and the outpouring of toys, monetary donations and other condolences did not seem to match the gravity of what had occurred.
