Found unconscious on road

Hugh Peeples of this city was the victim of a mysterious accident last night, and is lying in the Raymond General Hospital suffering from several bruises on the face, head and chest from which he will probably be some time in recovering. At about 8 o' clock last evening Mr. Peeples left the home of his brother, George Peeples, on the Island, riding a bicycle. About ten or fifteen minutes later, as near as can be determined, W.S. Lamme, who was driving his automobile, found Mr. Peeples unconscious in the street at the foot of the hill on Commercial Street. Mr. Lamme picked him up and took him at once to the General Hospital, from which his brother, father and sister were notified of the accident.

Annual music festival set for Raymond

Music students from West Central League schools will gather in Raymond on Saturday, February 15 for the annual league music festival. The program, which will be presented at the high school at 8pm, will include selections by the select band under the direction of Don McCaw, former head of the Aberdeen schools music program and presently director of the Grays Harbor Symphony Orchestra. Numbers included in the band section of the concert will include "the star spangled spectacular," a collection of George Cohan patriotic songs.

Boy scouts ask everyone to big rally

Willipa Harbor District Boy Scouts promise fun for everyone at the Scout rally Tuesday night at the South Bend Chamber of Commerce building.

A welcome to everyone in the area is extended by the Scouts. A potluck dinner will be followed by pack meetings, a court of honor, and a senior court of awards.

Those attending the event should bring a hot dish and other food, tableware, and "healthy appetites and good cheer." The Scouts will provide coffee.

Apartment owner gets deadline for repairs

The owner of the Crystal Apartments has 90 days to begin repairing the building or city officials will start condemnation.

That was the 2-1 ruling of the city commissioners at their February 6 meeting. Mayor Marshall Briggs and Commissioner Ed Norman voted against it.

Norman said he was in favor of giving owner Phil Hall six months to solve the problem and that there could be no end to similar cases, with city funds paying for architects to inspect buildings when a tenant complains.

Business too good at county slammer

Reviewing his guest list last week, county Jail Superintendent Ron Black lamented that the quality was down and the quantity was up. He'd like state funding to relieve his overworked staff of 5.

"People think our jail population is 8 or 12 people at a time," Black said. They are shocked to hear it is more than 25 convicts serving weekend time must do so by appointment.

Five ton trucks banned on roads

The county board Tuesday voted an immediate ban on use of county roads by trucks weighing more than five tons.
