Grocery store Robbed

Burglars broke into the Garden Tracts Grocery some time during Wednesday night and carried away groceries and merchandise to the value of $40 or $50. Among the goods taken were two sacks of sugar, some flour, cigarette papers, and other articles.

From indications it is apparent that the thieves entered through a window and probably passed their plunder out through the back door. There is no clue to the perpetrators.

$50 Reward.

A reward of $50 will be paid for evidence leading to the arrest and conviction of the party or parties who broke into our Garden Tract store on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning and took there from a quantity of groceries.

Editors meet in South Bend

State Newspaper Men are guests of sister city this week.

The Washington State Press Association is in session at South Bend for the last three days of this week. The regular program was to have begun at 10 o' clock yesterday morning but owing to the fact that most of the delegates did not arrive until the afternoon train came in, the work of the Association was taken up last night and as much of the day's program carried out as possible. The topics for discussion yesterday included opening remarks by the president A. A. Smith. "The public press and the public health," by Dr. Eugene R. Kelly, state health commissioner; a discussion of the contempt law and the publication of delinquent tax lists, and an address by miss B.I. Beals, secretary of the state Tuberculosis Association.

Seafood work halts, jobless rate jumps.

E.S. Harding, manager of the Raymond office of the Employment Security Department, reports that claims activity increased somewhat during July. Harding attributed the rise to two things: the start of a new benefit year the first full week in July and the seasonal shutdown of oyster processing in the South Bend and Long Beach areas.

Bruno talks of school base before Kiwanis

"Home, school, church and community- keep these four strong and you need have no fear for the future of the country," Louis Bruno told a Kiwanis luncheon group Wednesday noon.

The state superintendent of public instruction, who for 11 years taught in Raymond schools, said each of the four institutions have a job to do, and that none of the others should be asked to take on a job belonging to another.

Raymond students may never again play in the little green gym, which has been closed pending on an opinion on its safety from the city building inspector. The school board

Monday decided to have building inspector Bob Hathaway look at the facility. They already got one opinion Monday from a structural engineer, whose name was unavailable, who recommended the gym stay closed or be repaired.

Air Force concert set in South Bend.

The Woodwind Quintet of the Air Force Band of the Pacific Northwest will offer a free concert of light classical music at the South Bend Community Center at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, August 23. Refreshments will be served after the performance.

The Woodwind Quintet tours the western states playing recitals, master classes, community concerts and educational presentations. The Air Force Band of the Pacific Northwest is the successor to Captain Glenn Miller's Air Force band organized in 1943 at Atlantic City, New Jersey. It has been stationed at McChord AFB since 1963.
