MENLO - This year's Pacific County Fair will probably be a little more low-key than in past years, largely because of the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Pacific County Fair Manager Bill Monohon updated the Herald with the latest developments about the 2021 fair.
The Pacific County Fair did not receive a large amount of funding this year from the Pacific County commissioners.
"The funding is low this year, but (we) will make the best of it," Monohon said, adding that the fair has "only about 35k to make things happen and that is not easy."
The 2021 Pacific County Fair will be conducted at maximum capacity as it was during normal times. "Yes, per the state guidelines, we will operate pretty much as usual," Monohon said. "We will have numerous hand sanitizing stations throughout the fairgrounds and do recommend distancing as best we can for events taking place. We will also have masks available for those wishing to wear them."
Monohon said this year's fair is three days long by county "commissioners' decision." The Pacific County Fair takes place from Thursday, August 26 through Saturday, August 28. In past years, it has opened on Wednesday.
"We are having a fair (and) we need many volunteers to make it happen," Monohon said. "Even with the past year and pandemic, we can and will make it a safe environment to get out and see the great entries from individuals around the county and enjoy some fair food and entertainment."
Since this is the 125th Pacific County Fair and the 100th fair at the Menlo location, the Herald asked Monohon if there was going to be anything special being planned? His response was, "We will enjoy the local fair for 2021. Our decision now is to plan for a 'breakout' event in 2022 to really celebrate the years of our local history."
According to Monohon, the theme for this year's fair is "CELEBRATION" in accordance with "celebrating the 125th and 100th fairs."
According to Monohon, he is "the sole responsible party at this time" in charge of the events that will be taking place. "We have various superintendents in our fair barns and buildings that plan their decorations, events each year for their given areas. We list the various superintendents in our premium list."
As far as events being planned, Monohon said, "We will have various entertainers, still working on this. Games to be played by all, on the grounds." In regard to entertainment acts signed on, Monohon said, "working on this now. "Things will be updated as we go forward. Items are there now (on pacificcountyfair.com website) but more will be published."
In closing, Monohon said, "It is going to be a rebuilding year coming out of the pandemic. Some vendors have chosen not to participate this year. We do have new vendors and will continue forward planning for 2022. I want to thank everyone for their encouragement in holding a fair in 2021. (I'm) looking forward to providing a safe and fun year in 2021."
Monohon said that fair enthusiasts can find "updated information posted on the fair website: pacficcountyfair.com, adding that "information will be posted on Facebook for those using Facebook."
