Friend,

We're sure you've been following the news from Oso and Darrington too, and as we were back there Friday, we just wanted to update you.

The horrific mudslide last Saturday is impossible to describe. Last weekend we saw some of the worst devastation we'd ever seen in Washington -- but we also saw the most amazing and selfless acts of kindness from every single person there. From firefighters refusing to stop and rest, to neighbors, the United Way, and the Red Cross doing everything they could for the families, everyone -- to a person -- stepped up to help in the rescue effort.

And from what we heard here Friday, we can tell you just how much everyone here appreciates how the state, and the nation, has pulled together to help.

If you'd like to pitch in, the single most important thing you can do right now is to click here, and contribute to the United Way of Snohomish County.

They've been here since the slide, offering assistance to the families, and have been invaluable to these communities.

As horrific as this disaster is, it's comforting to witness how such tragedies shine a bright light on just how good Washingtonians can be to one another.

Thank you for your help, and your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Maria Cantwell
U.S. Senator

Patty Murray
