The Winlock City Council has approved recreational marijuana use within the C-1 Zoning Districts.

Passed Feb. 10, the ordinance allows the production, processing and sale of recreational marijuana in C-1, which encompasses the downtown core and the commercial area on Cedar Crest Dr.

Despite having no applications yet for such facilities, Winlock had been advised to take a pro-active approach and zone marijuana so future applicants would have clear expectations.

The ordinance states no merchandise other than marijuana, marijuana-infused products and related paraphernalia may be sold at a retail outlets, no persons under the age of 21 will be allowed to work at a marijuana facility, and no person, employee or otherwise, shall open or consume marijuana products in a retail outlet.

Castle Rock similarly voted Nov. 12 to allow such uses in their C-2 Highway Business District, while Vader alternatively banned recreational and medical marijuana facilities, and Toledo has said they sense no urgency to take action as state proximity guidelines disallow recreational marijuana in most areas of the city.
