During the third week of February, Rachel Archer earned this prestigious title as an All-American by placing 5th place at Nationals. She wrestled in the 116 pound weight classification.
Archer is a junior at Oklahoma City University and a 2013 Winlock High School graduate. She was a 3-time high school state wrestling champion.
So, how does one become an All-American? Archer stated that, "To become an All-American you have to place in the top 8 at Nationals. There were over 30 girls in the 116 lb. weight class. It was tough because I dropped weight to compete in that class. I practice two hours every morning with my team and then I do an extra hour at night on my own which usually includes running."
I asked Rachel what she has enjoyed the most about all of this and she was quick to say, "It is the people I have met and the friends I have made."
"I am thankful to my parents first of all. They have supported me with everything. I also appreciate my two brothers Kyle and Joe. The community of Winlock has also been nice and always wants to know what is going on. I also want to thank my coaches at Oklahoma and my teammates; we are all a family. No one understands us like we understand each other. We know what each other go through."
So, what is next for this All-American? "We have one week off and then it is back to practicing and training for our upcoming tournaments as well as training for next year." She is also busy with her studies as she plans to become a nurse.
Rachel, Thank you for putting our small town on the map with your hard work and great accomplishments! We are proud of you!!
