Local residents are being encouraged to help collect school supplies for Winlock’s "Stuff the Bus" program taking place later in August.
Attempted for the first time last year and met with significant success, the goal is to fill an entire school bus with supplies for underprivileged students, including backpacks, notebooks, pencils, markers, craft glue and a number of other school supplies appropriate for all grades. It is expected the donations will be divided among the three schools in the district and given to students in need, which compromise more than half of students within the district when looking at numbers reported for free-and-reduced lunch program participants.
The bus will be parked outside the district offices (311 NW Fir St.) between Aug. 25 and 29, though donations may be dropped off at the district office beforehand.
