Thanksgiving is this week and many of us have been around Winlock for many years and for this we are very thankful. I can remember going to school in Winlock and every year we would make a turkey with our hands when we were in grade school, I still have one of those to this date. When I was young, we went to the neighbors across the creek for Thanksgiving and we had a 50 lb turkey, have you ever seen a 50 lb turkey? A 50 lb turkey takes 12 ½ hours to cook and many days to eat, this year I am only going to cook a 20 lb turkey, seems a little small compared to 50 lb Tom Turkey!!
Winlock is having their annual Christmas tree lighting this year on December 5th at 6:30. Cookies, hot chocolate and hot apple cider will be served. Come on down and enjoy the time with other citizens of Winlock. It's a good way to get in to the holiday spirit!!
Bingo at the Winlock Community building has been cancelled for the months of November and December. It just falls a little too close to the holidays and as we know the Lions and Lioness clubs are busy during this time of year making sure all of the kids in Winlock get a gift and some great food.
One of the projects the Lioness club is doing is the annual giving Christmas tree. This is where you take a tag off the Christmas tree and give a family in need of gifts for the Christmas season. When I worked in Seattle we would adopt many families and we always felt like we were giving something back, please consider helping the families of Winlock have a wonderful holiday season.
There is a new group in town, called WIN. WIN stands for Winlock Improvement Network. These individuals want to make Winlock a great place to live, get new businesses to come to town and improve the buildings in the town. Their next meeting will be December 17th at 6:00pm at Guadalajara if you are interested.
The Winlock Walk and Knock is coming around very soon again. If you have canned foods that you would like to donate, please have them in a grocery sack and they will pick them up. We have done this every year and I am always thankful we can help out the community.
Jeanne with the Winlock Lions club called this week just to let me know that they will be having fireworks for sale this year starting December 27th through the 31st. Proceeds go back to helping the community. More information to come but thought I would give everyone a heads up so they can support Winlock instead of somewhere outside of the community.
Winlock Olequa Senior Center will be closed this Thursday in observance of Thanksgiving and on Friday. They will resume their regular schedule on Monday.
The menu for December has not been provided so unfortunately I can not give you the information. Monday the 30th will be Soup, Salad or Sandwich, combo of any two.
