The Winlock Egg Day Royalty Court has been around as long as Egg Day has. In the years past, students, teachers and selling buttons was a way to earn the crown. Much has changed over the years and Amber Neumann has taken on the role of helping the committee.
The Egg Day Royalty Court is about the community, Amber stated, "The royalty program is about community service. Egg Day Royalty strives to represent the Winlock community and the Egg Day Celebration in the best light possible and in the way the Egg Day Committee sees fit."
What is expected most don't know, she continued, "The Royalty Court, as it has been explained to me, will be expected to attend all parades and events throughout the year that the Egg Day Committee puts on their calendar, exceptions will be made on a case by case basis."
Many wonder what timeframe you must sign up to be on the court. Amber continued, "June 1, 2021, is the deadline for registering if they want their photo in the program book. As for the ages we are encouraging all students ages 6-18 to participate. Mini 6-8, Little 9-11, Junior 12-14 and Queen/King 15-18. What are the requirements for joining the Egg Day Royalty Court? Amber explained it to us, she stated, "To participate in the Egg Day Royalty Program you need to live in the Winlock area or attend a Winlock school. Participants may also be home-schooled or attend a private school as long as they live in the Winlock area. Participants also need to be between the ages of 6 and 18."
A few things have changed this year, one is the Junior and Primary candidates, Amber explained the new program, "After the 2019 Egg Day season the Junior Royalty Program that most people are familiar with was cancelled. This year as a committee Royalty decided to try something new. We introduce a Primary and Junior pageant just like the King and Queens. The participants would compete for official Egg Day Royalty Titles. The winners would then be official members of the Egg Day Royalty Court and be invited to ride on the float in all the parades that we are in. We would also take them to age Appropriate events. One of the things the Egg Day Committee has really asked is that we get the word out that the Royalty program is not just for young ladies. We invite young men to sign up and participate in the program. It's hard to say if this will continue into the next year or if it is just something we are going to do for this year."
The Royalty Court does not just come with a crown, Amber stated, "On top of the official crown and sash, they will gain self confidence through developing public speaking skills, interview skills as well as resume development skills."
