The Aug. 12 Winlock City Council meeting adjourned seven minutes after it began, a record by all accounts.

Winlock Lions Club President Bob Giardina requested reservation of the basement, kitchen and large room in the Community Building for July 12-13, 2014, for a fund-raising event aimed at providing hospitality and refreshments to the Seattle To Portland Bicycle Classic (STP) participants. Annual entries number around 10,000 with Lewis County the commonly recognized halfway point for overnighters on the 150+ mile trek.

Their 11-month early request came after they were too late reserving the Community Building for 2013 after American Legion Post 101 reserved all dates during July around four months in advance, although no events were actually staged, according to City Hall.

A $350 Loss Control Grant from the Association of Washington Cities was approved, along with the purchase of a fire hydrant to be installed on Shannon Lewis Ln.

Council Member Dennis Korpi inquired about progress on equipment scheduled to be surplussed, including police vehicles, awaiting further action by Police Chief Terry Williams.

Next meeting is scheduled for Aug 26 at 7:15 p.m. in City Hall. Those needing special accommodations may contact Winlock at www.winlockwa.govoffice2.com or (360) 785-3811.
