Members of the Winlock Basketball Association were in attendance for a recent $10,000 donation given by the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation. Those in attendance were: President Sarah Gifford, Vice President Randy Hall, Treasurer Daleyn Coleman, Secretary Hedy Mitchell, and members-at-large Kim Whitehead, Steve Dean, and Mark Velasco. From the Winlock School District were Superintendent Dr. Richard Serns, Athletic Director Ben Suhrbier, Principal Brian Maley, Winlock Girls' Head Coach Tori Nelson, and Winlock Boys' Head Coach Nick Bamer.
It is with true gratitude that the Winlock Basketball Association and the Winlock High School girls' and boys' basketball teams recognize the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation.
WBA applied and was granted $10,000 from the Confederated Tribe Business Committee. Without their gracious gift, Winlock Basketball Association would not have been able to purchase the new scorers' table, the new players' chairs and rack, or the backboard lights (which will be working correctly once the missing part arrives).
During the event, WBA representatives were able to present Confederated Tribe Business Committee member Farley Youckton, past treasurer, and his son, Farley Youckton II, with a banner sharing their appreciation. The banner will hang in the school gym to show the Confederated Tribes' sponsorship of the basketball programs.
A big basketball thank you to everyone who helped with this project, and a very sincere thank you to the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation for their gift!
