A Vader couple accused of killing a 3-year-old boy pleaded not guilty during arraigned Thursday and are scheduled for trial next month.
Brenda Wing, 27, and Danny Wing, 26, are accused of homicide by abuse in the death of Jasper Henderling-Warner, over whom the Wings had legal guardianship at the time of his death.
According to authorities, Henderling-Warner's mother, a Vancouver resident who had met Brenda Wing through a methadone clinic in Clark County, was concerned she could not care for the child as she was homeless and signed over guardianship to the Wings in July. Since that time, Henderling-Warner became the victim of ongoing physical abuse, according to the Lewis County Coroner, leading to his death on Oct. 5.
The Wings have since given investigators differing and inconsistent accounts of how the child died and were arrested for homicide by abuse on Nov. 7.
A trial has been scheduled for the week of Jan. 25, and it is expected they will be tried before separate judges.
The suspects remain incarcerated at the Lewis County Jail on $200,000 and $500,000 bail, respectively.
