Willapa Valley Middle and High School is celebrating a School of Distinction award they recently received for sustained improvement in English language arts and math over a five-year period.
Willapa Valley Middle & High School is one of 94 schools, or the top 5 percent in the state, so honored by the Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE) and their partner organizations, which have recognized schools all over the state for continuous and substantive improvement.
Principal Nancy Morris explained that there are many reasons for the success of her middle and high school students. She cites a team approach and student progress monitoring as some of the most important reasons why students are successful at the school.
"With strong communication, both teacher-to-teacher and teacher-to-home, we know what each student is learning, no one is falling through the cracks. All kids are accountable for learning and all of them know we care enough to make sure that they are doing the learning work. The students themselves also take their learning and the state testing seriously. This really is a team effort," Morris said.
A celebration will be planned when the School of Distinction banner is presented to the school.
