Winlock Police Chief Terry Williams (far left) takes questions from students at Winlock Miller Elementary School last Wednesday as part of the Bike to School safety program. Students were allowed to go through a supervised bike safety course to learn how to properly travel on roadways, among other activities.

Lewis County Fire District 15 Assistant Chief Kevin Anderson (far left) was part of a group examining the condition of bike helmets brought by students, with replacements given away as needed. The bicycles themselves were also inspected for safety by Bob's Bike Shop, of Longview, with more than 100 bikes reportedly examined that day.

Volunteer Diana Werden (foreground, left) was among those assisting students during the event. Other volunteers also included members of the Winlock Lions Club.
